Today I would like to share with you the new Facebook option which may soon be introduced. Facebook Messenger is testing a new option which allows people to send messages that vanish in an hour. It is available in France now and it is still not confirmed if the option will be available in other countries. Facebook is trying to convince us that their messenger is the best place to communicate and is giving us a set of tools to improve this experience. Obviously this feature reminds Snapchat idea of disappearing content. Is Facebook trying to imitate Snapchat because Evan Spiegel refused selling it? Maybe.
For me it is more interesting why people would like to hide their messages, because I don’t mind keeping my conversations with friends saved. Usually it is even better to have possibility to check what exactly they asked us about, or what time and where you were supposed to meet. However I understand that some people treat conversations very personal and may feel safe if nobody can read it. Therefore I would like to show you how it looks like now:
It means that the text will disappear but the message frame will still be there… I think that if somebody would like the conversation to dissapear he can just delete it instead of leaving the evidence of chatting but without real content… What is your opinion about it? Do you think it can be useful? Would you improve something here?

I don’t mind if my messages stay either. However, this is definiately something for snapchat fans. Personally, I don’t care about it because I use social media mainly for setting up meetings, or keeping up with friends from abroad (and of course working on group projects 😉 )
Well it’s not so stupid if you will think about it for a minute. There’s plenty of fragile data that shouldn’t be sent via facebook but sometimes there’s no other option – e.g. bank account number or passwords. It might be a very useful tool in case of many emergencies. But to be honest first thing I thought about when I read about this thing was that it would be easier to send messages to our crushes 😛 I mean if some people are too shy to invite someone to the cinema or for a date it would be a good way to cover if this person would not answer for this kind of message 😀
well… I didn’t think about it this way 🙂 Now I am more convinced to the idea
If u want to hide personal data from someone who uses your phone – delete it; if from a person u sent it – a person can retain it anyway; if from a Facebook – come on, really?!?!? 🙂
Maybe it would be better for fb to use some encrypting methodologies to save messages somehow. Idea itself is nice, but something stands behind, isn’t?
I hate this idea, this data might “disappear” but does it really? You know what they say “what’s been documented on the internet can never be fully erased. I wish Facebook came up with something more innovative.
very lot people will find it useful, even chrome provide us option” incognito ” (which not record history)it prove that this is need to fulfill…
Useless 🙁 Especially if the frame remains 🙁
