Have you noticed that for some time there is a fashion to create photographic blogs? I don’t know how’s your friends, but a lot of mine made funpages with a „photography” add to their name. To be honest there’s no wonder – nowadays everyone has a camera in pocket and usually it’s pretty good. Of course quality is very important but some smartphones has additional features to improve it and do not stand out quite as much from professional equipment (such as optical image stabilization which significantly affects the quality of mobile photography). In addition nowadays this kind of photography is much more able to replace the one made by professional equipment. All this thanks to software algorithms and increasing the possibilities of hardware – proved in a test of Phone Arena portal which proved that the users often liked more photos made by smartphones than those made by SLR.
The same trend can be observed in the fashion industry, which in the vast majority relies on photography and film. Lately many marketing campaigns was filmed or photographed just using a smartphone (for example Diesel and the Burberry).
There is no wonder. Modern devices are able to take pictures with the quality of 20 -something megapixels and shoot films in 4K resolution. The case looks even more interesting from the point of view of an ordinary user because there are millions of applications for improving, changing or transform a photo so that everyone can take pictures of a quality sufficient to brag among friends.
This use of technology brings us clear advantages. I do not know about you but I really do not like to make photos to documents. Not only that photographer always chooses the worst of it but also they cost very much comparing to the end result. It turns out that if we use your cleverness and your hardware we can save yourself the embarrassment of showing documents with bad photos to our friends but also money because that shooting is much cheaper!
It is this same with very expensive cameras. Do you remember House MD? One of an episode was shooted by Canon Mark II instead of film equipment.
I think that the biggest advantage of amateur photos is that they are usually taken spontaneously and can cath ’the moment’. Even if the quality is little bit worse from proffesional equipment it is more intimate and emotional. Phones are everywhere with us and the proffesional camera is not. Even if you can afford it is inconvenient to carry it everywhere.
I totally agree. Especially that normally we don’t need really high resolution or quality – even news channels in TV put on some movies made by viewers because they were in right place and time – content became more important!
I love the fact that I can take a picture everywhere and any time thanks to my mobile. You never know when something worth remembering will happen. However, taking pictures became so popular and it seems so easy that professional photographers have less work (or they get less money for their work).
I don’t think professional photographers will have less work. Yes we can catch moments and create our own memories with phones but it is still not the same as when someone who knows what they are doing captures your moment for you, it details but they make pictures magical.
Of course it depends on what kind of photography we are talking about, but next time I need photos to my documents I will not go to the photographer, I will use the way from the link that Filip has posted.
Me too 😀 Especially that it is not so complicated
In my opinion, currently, – while focuisng on the non-professional photographers – due to the possibilities provided by our mobile phones, it is really unnecessary to purachse a full-size, highly advanced cameras. Moreover, I would like to stress that using the specifc programs available at mobile-application stores gives us a plenty of opportunities to edit our favorite photos. However, one of the problems that can appear with photos that were taken with mobile phones concerns the issue of enlarging them, without losing their quality. Due to the very good quality of mobile phones’ screens, in the vast majority of cases, we will not recognize the problem, unless we will have our enlarged photographs developed.
