Record the Police by saying “Hi Siri, I’m getting pulled over”

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In today’s world we see police violence every day. Cell phone videos of many racial police acts have disturbed many people worldwide. It can happen any minute of the day so everyone should be prepared

Unlocking you phone and turning the camera on, can take few seconds when we stress. With this Siri shortcut you can save some important few seconds.

When the shortcut has been created on your iPhone, all you got to say is “Hi Siri, I’m getting pulled over.” Your phone will automatically  pause the music that is being played, and will start recording a video from your phone’s front camera. It can also send your location and copy of the video to an emergency contact, this requires a confirmation that will popup on your phone.

Robert Peterson is the one who has created this shortcut. It was published in 2018, and it has been updating since then. The app is getting more attention after the death of George Floyd on May 25th, when a police officer kneeled on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

Installing this can bit complicated. You have to have iOS 12 or newer, as well as the Shortcuts app. When you will have all that, you need to use Safari web browser, others don’t work, to access the link to download the shortcut.

For this program to work you need to be able to share location and load unverified shortcut access. Some other permissions may be needed to. Its’s best to do a practice run before using it for real, so everything will be working as it should.

Unfortunately there is no Android equivalent to this Siri one. Many other programmers are working on developing a similar one for different software.

There are also other apps to record interactions with the police.  For example “Mobile Justice.”There are many reviews on the internet comparing these two apps.  The Siri shortcut is better, because it doesn’t crash and after many updates it’s just getting better and better. On the other hand the “Mobile Justice” keeps crashing and freezing.

Quite an interesting blog! It would be nice to implement this feature on all phones.
By the way, is it possible to use this program with Apple Watch?
