MedWand is the next best thing to my doctor?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A couple of weeks ago, I got sick and the doctor’s appointment was virtual. I am not 18 years old and therefore they will not accept me without a parent in the hospital. Finally, the doctor prescribed me medications. But after a couple of days, I realized that I have Covid-19. I think that if doctors will use Medwand, they would be able to determine that I am not suffering from a cold.

Telehealth has long had the potential to increase healthcare for people living in rural areas or others who do not physically reach the doc, but the COVID-19 pandemic has made it even more important. MedWand, a clinical-grade diagnostic package, allows the practitioner to obtain evidence that usually involves an in-person consultation. The USB-connected unit provides a physician with real-time access to data from 10 research devices, including a stethoscope, an otoscope (for the ears), an ophthalmoscope (for the back of the eyes), and a dermatoscope (for skin lesions), as well as a thermometer, a pulse oximeter (for heart rate and blood oxygen level monitoring) and an ECG detector, roughly the size of a small mug of coffee. The product is pending FDA approval until cleared, and should be available.

I think this is an really useful tool especially in times of pandemic when all kind of social contact should be minimalised, A very similar tool was introduced by StethoMe- a startup from Poznan, Poland- I think you might find it interesting too. Anyway,I hope you are feeling better now! 😉

That is a huge step in telehealth domain. With it people are getting closer to full digitalization of healthcare.
