Games on Microsoft Teams

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Microsoft Teams is a well-known and widely-used program allowing people to work remotely. Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, we have seen many improvements in MS Teams, Google Meet, and Zoom. After all, many people, from school-aged children to working adults, started using these apps daily.

Recently, The Verge brought up that Microsoft is planning to introduce games into Teams. It is said in the article that the company is ‘testing games like SolitaireConnect 4, and Wordament inside Microsoft Teams. The casual games are designed to allow colleagues to play against each other during meetings’.

However, what is intriguing is the idea behind this innovation. Introducing small games into Teams is just a start to a bigger plan that Microsoft has. The company is planning to introduce even more improvements. As mentioned in The Verge article, ‘These virtual spaces are part of Microsoft’s broader metaverse plans, and the company has previously detailed its ambitions for 3D avatars and immersive meetings that are expected to arrive in Microsoft Teams this year’.

Are you looking forward to having meetings in the improved version of MS Teams?

It is impressive and a little bit terrifying at the same time

Creating such games in MS Teams could be distracting during meetings for people. I personally think that other platforms are made to play and enjoy with friends/colleagues. Though, the future version of Teams with 3D avatars seems interesting and will for sure allow many new immersive functionalities offering a newer and more advanced experience of remote working.

On the one hand, I agree with you. Some games could be a distraction for some people. But, on the other hand, some games like built-in ice-breakers could be a handy tool for people to get to know each other!
