Electric motorcycles have been gaining in popularity in recent years, but they still make up a tiny fraction of total motorcycle sales. In 2017, electric motorcycles accounted for just 0.1% of total motorcycle sales worldwide.
There are a number of reasons for this. One is that electric motorcycles are still relatively expensive. The average price of an electric motorcycle in the United States is around $10,000, while the average price of a gas motorcycle is around $5,000.
Another reason is that electric motorcycles have shorter ranges than gas motorcycles. This is due to the fact that electric motorcycles are much heavier than gas motorcycles, and they also lack gears, which makes them less efficient on the highway. As a result, electric motorcycles are typically only suitable for use as city transport.
Finally, electric motorcycles simply don’t have the same appeal as gas motorcycles. For many people, motorcycles are a symbol of freedom and power, and electric motorcycles simply can’t match the performance of gas motorcycles, due to for example, their increased weight. Another noticeable issue within the community has been the lack of sound. Motorcyclists say they feel weird riding something completely silent, as they don’t know if they still have more power or if they’re already wide open on the throttle. E-bikes, on the other hand, have become increasingly popular in recent years. They are much lighter than electric motorcycles, and while their ranges are significantly lower, it’s enough for most users. In addition, e-bikes are much cheaper than electric motorcycles, with prices starting as low as $500. Finally they’re also much more comfortable for people living in the city, as they can be easily carried into for example an elevator or apartment.
For all of these reasons, e-bikes have been outselling electric motorcycles by a wide margin. In 2017, e-bikes accounted for 36% of all electric vehicle sales worldwide, while electric motorcycles accounted for just 0.1% as I stated previously

Despite all the disadvantages mentioned in the article, I would like to buy an electric motorbike, because they are really fast, and they accelerate at a much faster rate too, thanks to the influence in their system of tech giants like Google and Samsung. Also normal motors are high on emissions, that is twice as much as what cars produce. I’d definitely go green !
Unfortunately, you’re incorrect. Electric motorcycles do not accelerate faster than gas powered motorcycles. The list of records for both 0-60mph as well as quarter mile runs all are led by gas powered motorcycles. The power to weight ratio makes the difference here. The only advantage electric motorcycles have is their high torque, which is useless if superbikes 20 years ago could barely keep their front wheel on the ground accelerating. More power will just make it harder to control it. I’m also not quite sure how Google and Samsung had any impact on the development of electric motorcycles. Anyways, I believe most people like you, who say they want an electric motorcycle, either want it just as a fashion statement, or in reality would much prefer an electric bicycle or a small scooter that would be compliant with a B2 license, just for the sake of convenience.
even though electrical motorbikes are more expensive than gas motorbikes, it will be more cost effective on the long run, an example on that is that the person using it won’t have to pay a lot for its recharge, when compared to refueling a gas motorcycle, I think you will save a lot of money. In addition, it is more environmental friendly with no carbon emission, which is a very important thing for our future as everybody is headed towards lowering greenhouse gases emissions. I would actually support buying an electrical motorcycle and I think it will be developed a lot in the upcoming years and will be more useful than ever.
I would say that electric bikes should stay but only in a form of a moped. They don’t have the range or the performance to be classified as a motorcycle in my eyes. Furthermore, the weight of the batteries makes the “motorcycle” less manoeuvrable which is one of the key aspects of a bike. The point you make that they lack noise is I believe vital for people who enjoy riding motorcycles. Most of the time when you are riding you estimate your speed and gear based on the noise for example if you have the speed to overtake someone. The lack of noise also brings up many safety concerns for people; since the main reason behind people modifying their motorbikes exhaust is to be hear by other motorist in order to not get hit when driving through traffic
