Have you ever thought while buying perfumes that you want to have a scent which is original and matches your personality? Now AI gives a possibility to smell extraordinary and simultaneously be sure that no one else have the same perfume.
Nowadays people want to be different than others, to stand out in the society and they are sick of having everything the same. That’s why a Dutch company Algorithmic Perfumery designed a program which creates a totally personalized perfume based on your personality and preferences. So how does it work? Firstly you need to fulfill a questionnaire, in which some questions are directly related to perfume, some not really, like “what color represents you the best?”. That’s because the program, outside of making perfumes, tries to understand why is it that people like what they like. In next step you create your own names for the perfumes. Then AI generates 3 different scent recipes using algorithms and data from your answers. After few minutes a machine produces your perfect perfumes and they are ready to use them. The goal is to learn AI to make a scent that a person finds really matching and personalized. Such a pleasure costs 40 euros for three different scents, each in 5ml bottle. It can be done stationary or via website, but if someone need a guidance the company offers 15 minute 1-on-1 session with a scent coach. The other interesting thing that company offers is a possibility of making perfumes for someone else. You respond and you create a scent which represents a person seen through your eyes
In my opinion this way of making perfume is a kind of work of art. Why only large and significant companies should decide what the rest of the world should smell like? It is better to have something unique and valuable rather than something that every third person has. Personally I will really enjoy creating my own perfumes and for me it will be great experience to smell the scent based on my preferences.
