EU wanted to conquer the metaverse with its plan.
“We will continue looking at new digital opportunities and trends, such as the metaverse.” – as is it said in State of The Union – Letter of intent
Metaverse’s a wildly fast-growing virtual reality platform and 3D virtual space where humans experience life in ways they couldn’t in the physical world. You can get there without any special equipment but to fully immerse yourself in the virtual world, it’s needed to invest in VR glasses, a headset and smart gloves, which are an expense of several thousand of euros.
They recognised that it can be a platform with many doors open and plenty of opportunities. Also may be the key medium to reach young people.
All laced with Tropical House style music, jumping dolphins and dancers on the rice. It was all meant to be a space for young people (from the age range of 18-35). and be a place for discussions and sharing ideas on topics related to the whole world, such as the climate crisis or the future of our world and the planet in general.
However, the opening event was a total flop, with only 5 people present, including 1 journalist. They have announced several different initiatives on the platform over the next two weeks, but will there be any takers?
What’s the reason for such crap even? Poor advertisement? Great idea, but poor execution?
The initiative was born from a project “Global Gateway” which has mobilised €300 billion due to the investment plan to develop new infrastructures in developing countries and to connect Europe to the world. It’s already the second time in a row that their idea has been a huge flop and a waste of money.
Let’s give a little reminder that the price tag was funded nonetheless by public money, OUR money. The same amount invested in Tik Tok, for example, which’s the main source of knowledge for the gen-Z , would yield in my opinion much greater results.
