Will 3D printing serve a greater purpose in the future?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

3D printing is quickly becoming a mature manufacturing technology. It’s useful for prototypes and offers significant benefits for small and medium-sized production runs. Using additive manufacturing, which refers to the production of three-dimensional parts formed layer by layer by using a metal powder that is melted with a metal source, 3D printers create high-quality products. These revolutionary machines have been used in different areas. With the level of constant development, the device is going to make a greater impact in the future.

Specialists argue that in the next 20 years 3D printers would be able to print large-scale houses. The device would print the building layer by layer using jets of concrete and would be able to create a two-story building just within a day. Some people however criticize this idea. They argue that such houses will not be reliable or solid and would easily collapse. In my opinion, this is a revolutionary innovation and as long as they use all the required materials and equipment to create the houses, I think the structure would be solid enough and of course after a thorough inspection. This 3D printer would make things simpler for constructors and multiple buildings would be constructed within a day.

Another aspect in which 3D printing devices and equipment would serve a greater purpose in the future is in the area of medicine. There are predictions that in years to come, 3D printers would be able to print bones or even organs, which may be the only way to save a patient’s life. There are arguments if this can be effective and if it would not cause harm or endangerment to the patient rather than help. I’m not fully convinced about this idea, because it may be odd to have a printed organ in your system or body.

Therefore, there are multiple areas in which 3D printing could serve a greater purpose in the future. There are also other aspects in which 3D printing would serve as help that were not mentioned in this blog, such as in engineering, aerospace, rail or robotics. What do you think? Is the idea of 3D printing revolutionary?

Although I agree that 3D printing will become much more useful in many areas than it is right now, I would be utterly skeptical about the ideas like 3D home printing or usage in medicine for this specific purpose (organ creation, etc.) I am obviously not an expert, but I ponder it would require the printers to be able to use materials that would be utterly hard to use. For instance, how could a 3D printer use human flesh to make a heart or concrete to build a good-quality home?

I would say that 3D printing could have a great purpose in the future, but I highly doubt that people would agree to having an organ that was 3D printed. Yes, it can be well-developed by the time they start doing such procedures but I truly believe it is not wise nor safe for a human to have such an “organ” in their body. regarding the houses however, I believe it could actually work out. If they use the right materials, the houses could be quite stable, and definitely well-looking.

There are already many applications for 3D printing in a variety of industries, including healthcare, aerospace, and automotive. For instance, 3D printing creates custom prosthetics, aerospace components, and car parts.

In the future, 3D printing will be used in a broader range of applications. It could be used to create homes and buildings and produce products on demand, reducing the need for large-scale production and storage.

Overall, 3D printing has the potential to significantly enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and increase customization in manufacturing, and it is likely to play an important role in the future.

First of all, thank you for the post! 3D printers indeed become more and more popular every year, and I am personally very excited to see where they will lead us. Houses are already being printed, which is honestly mind-blowing. French company Xtreee recently built 5 houses that were fully certified.

I wouldn’t be against living in such a house if sufficient documents proved that it is safe, if such houses were beautiful and cheaper than usual ones. In terms of body organs… Well, so far, it sounds a bit disturbing; I definitely would be very cautious about such an idea. But who knows what awaits us in the future. I won’t be very surprised if 3D printers start producing organs and help save people’s lives in a few decades or so.
