In the begging I want to emphasize right away that for now, this is just an idea and a concept.Hashem Al-Ghaili is a science communicator, producer and director currently living in Berlin. He presented his extraordinary project and vision to the world, which – as he says – is based on 50 years of research by outstanding scientists from around the world. This concept will enable infertile couples to have a baby. The second benefit is that it can result in more than 30.000 additional births in a single year. The shocking aspect of this artificial womb is that parents will be able to select the height, IQ level, eye color, hair color, and even avoid many genetic illnesses for their unborn child.
There will be numerous sensors inside the artificial womb that will be in charge of navigating and monitoring the baby’s temperature, breathing rate, and heart rate. The voices from outside are heard by the baby while it is still within the real human womb, which is crucial for the growing baby so something similar Ectolife wants to deliver in the artificial womb.
The artificial womb at EctoLife, the first of its kind in the world, would be powered by renewable energy. Ectolife wants to solve the problem of women dying due to delivery problems and the pain they experience during birth. If the company succeeds, it might benefit many nations with rapidly decreasing population.
One serious barrier prevents Ectolife from expanding on its concept. Babies under the age of 14 weeks are prohibited from participating in research by law. If the law changes, the first kids from artificial wombs may be seen in 10 to 20 years.
I can’t wait to see how this concept turns out. For the present time, I believe that the human body and the childbirth process cannot be mapped.
I’m not sure whether artificial womb will solve population problems in those countries because those problems aren’t caused by pregnancy related causes. My other concern is the connection to reality of this idea, it does not contain any research or real photos only some predictions created in photoshop that does not even look like medical equipment but more like military base from video games.
While the concept of artificial wombs raises many potential benefits such as helping women who cannot carry a pregnancy to term, it also raises ethical, social and medical concerns. On one hand, it could potentially provide solutions for infertility and allow for gestational surrogacy without involving a human womb. On the other hand, it raises concerns about the commodification of reproduction and the implications for traditional family structures.
