What is Volvo?
Volvo is a Swedish manufacturing company that specializes in producing luxury automobiles and commercial vehicles. The company was founded in 1927 and its headquarters is located in Gothenburg, Sweden. Volvo has been owned by the Chinese automotive company Geely since 2010. The company’s name, Volvo, is derived from the Latin word “volvere” which means “to roll.”
What is Volvo City safety?
Volvo City safety is a system containing a camera and a radar, that provides drivers with additional safety measures. This system can detect vehicles and motorcycles, pedestrians and bikes crossing your path, and objects in front of your car in the dark. In the case of the first one when vehicles are driving the same direction as you and you drive less than 31 mph, this system can avoid a collision without a problem. In the case of the second one when a pedestrian tries to cross the road and you are driving under 28 mph it can avoid a collision. In all these situations the system alerts you first and if you do not react it will hit the brakes by itself. If you were driving faster than these limits this system can help to reduce the possible impact. Volvo city safety also has flaws such as when you do not clean your wind shield the laser radar can work inaccurately. The same happens when the wind shield has ice on it or there is fog outside.
How is AI used for this system?
AI is used in the camera to detect other vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. The AI system analyzes the terabits of data with examples of how certain objects look like. Based on this, sensors and determines the appropriate response, such as applying the brakes or providing a warning to the driver.
In my opinion, Volvo safety system is an excellent feature that can prevent many accidents and save loads of lives. This policy by Volvo to make car driving as safe as possible is certainly good for our society. However, I am concerned about a situation where these sencors would work inaccurately, it could also cause accidents because of unwanted actions such as braking. I know it is unlikely to happen and the system is made to perfection, but we need to evaluate how often this system could cause such incidents.

This article really provides a comprehensive overview of Volvo’s City Safety system which I am very thankful for.
It is very important for companies to continue to improve and refine their systems to minimize these risks and ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
It is certainly an interesting idea, but in my opinion too utopian to be currently in wider use. If I am not mistaken, this is not the first smart city project by a car brand. Maybe Volvo and Toyota will be followed by other brands and the city project will be further developed.
It is definitely an idea that would prevent many accidents on roads. Volvo is not new to the concept of safety as they are making everything to make driving more secure. I’m sure that if this system will ever see the light of day, we could all benefit from it.
It’s great that this AI technology gives drivers additional safety precautions and helps fulfil one of the most basic human needs. The only worry now would be those unpredictable results of the unclear readings. However, I believe, as with any technology, with enough advancements, this solution will make our world a safer place.
Great post! It’s impressive how AI is used to make car driving safer, and the potential for it to save lives is remarkable.
Yes, of course, this safety system and implemented AI are great, but the main thing is to maintain the idea of the importance of careful driving among all drivers. Because we still can’t blindly rely on technologies on the road. However, Volvo’s case can now be a trend maker to all the other vehicle-producing companies.
I completely concur with your views on Volvo City Safety and its contribution to improving traffic safety. Volvo is doing a terrific job investing in safer driving, but it’s also important to assess the system’s limitations and guarantee its dependability through routine monitoring and improvement. I’m excited to follow the progress of Volvo City Safety as it contributes to safer roadways.
I like the direction in which volvo is going. Safety is really important and this will only improve it.
Volvo was always famous for the safety their cars provide, already having produced number 1 safest mass produced car. It is very reassuring that such a big company builds their competitive advantages on safety, hopefully more car companies will follow in suit. I actually know a person that was driving a volvo car and the more primitive version of this system saved him from a collision.
