Xiaomi has announced its latest technology for solid-state batteries that will increase the battery capacity by 33% compared to the regular lithium-ion batteries. It has been over 50 year since invention of litium-ion batteries, and finally here is the innovation!
The company claims that this technology will eliminate safety concerns associated with lithium-ion batteries, such as short-circuits and fires caused by damaging the battery. According to Xiaomi’s Weibo account, the company has achieved significantly higher energy density than the consumer batteries currently available in the market.
Xiaomi’s solid-state battery technology will allow the company to offer a capacity of 6000 mAh in the same size as the current 4500 mAh battery. The technology not only increases the capacity but also offers a range of advantages over the conventional lithium-ion batteries.
Xiaomi claims that its solid-state batteries can provide 20% more energy than lithium-ion batteries in conditions of extreme cold, such as -20 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the technology is safer than conventional lithium-ion batteries, as it eliminates the risk of short-circuits and fires caused by punctures.
This is a significant advantage for users who have faced safety problems associated with the battery in the past. It also gives a bigger space in usage of such batteries in modern electric cars, which makes them safer and more reliable. To my mind, it is a very important evolutional creation that can push even better progress in the future. However, Xiaomi is not ready for a mass production of such batteries yet, so the only thing we are to do for now is wait.
