Virtual Fashion Shows

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In the era of COVID-19 every industry has suffered. One of them is the fashion industry. People buy less because they do not go out, but the high fashion crowd and fashion pieces collectors are still hunting for the newest are rarest garments. After months of quarantining some fashion houses decided to go back to work.

But how can they show the newest collections without risking other peoples health ?

Well, they introduced virtual seats on fashion shows. Only the people that really had to be there, like models, photographers and staff members were present in real life. Other people like influencers, celebrities and other invited fashion lovers got a virtual seat. Some fashion houses went for the traditional way of doing it, it this case the guest list was just much shorter due to safety precautions.

Those who were invited to the virtual ones received invitations and goody bags delivered to their home. They got a special password to gain access to front row sight of the show. On some they could dress up in their samples (garments borrowed from the brand for a limited period of time) or in pieces form their own collection and have their camera on. This way they could be seen by those who were present at the physical show.

Zalando – quick and easy.

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Zalando SE is an European e-commerce company platform based in Berlin, Germany, founded in 2008 offering fashion and lifestyle products to 17 different markets.

Since then Zalando has become the European master in the department of online shopping and accessibility.

Especially during COVID times the mass preference is on the online side. All internet shops have been gaining popularity due to not having the ability to shop in stores. Zalando is one of the most convenient shopping platforms there is.

Ordering is extremely easy. There are two ways you can do it. On the website or via the Zalando app. You can add all your personal information right away and can start to shop until you drop (or your bank account). There is an excellent option, where you can create a ‘wish list’. You can mark items with a heart and then they automatically go to one place. When for example the item price drops, you will receive a notification that the item is available in your size and it’s on sale. It is very hard not to get caught in the shopping madness. The algorithm also suggests what size you should get. For example when an item is oversized there will be a message that you should get the garment one size down. Due to the site memorizing your shoes and clothing sizes it is quite helpful for the customer.

Once you have chosen the items and go to payments, you also have some options to choose from. You can pay online of course but my favorite option is to pay cash on the delivery. When purchasing the item you will immediately see how many days it will take for the piece to get to your home or to a pickup point of your choice. Usually it takes 2-5 working days. You can also choose to pay 1 zł more for the carbon footprint that your delivery made.

When your things arrive they come with a packaging that you can close again in case if you would like to return the item and a return sticker. If you don’t like what you have 100 days (yes, a 100 days) to return your order. All you have to do is fill out a return form that includes why you want to return the item and the bank account you want to get your money back on. Like with the delivery, you can drop it at any Zalando pick up point, for example Żabka or order a parcel service for free. They will give you your money back in 14 days maximum.

Recently the company has introduced a new feature, The pre-owned to be exact. You can send them your unloved clothes for a gift card. I personally think it is a excellent thing that such a fast fashion (not only but mostly) platform  is trying to become more environmentally friendly.

Zalando has one of the best delivery systems in my opinion. The shopping is really easy especially on the mobile application. I highly recommend the app for all the fellow shopaholics and people who are looking for last-minute Christmas gifts.

Louis Vuitton the “cutting edge” bag

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Luxury brand Louis Vuitton showcased a new type of handbag design at its Cruise 2020 runway show. The USP of the design is the built-in flexible screen.

The bag is rather interesting. It is made of the classic LV canvas material in the monogram print, with black patent leather and feature functioning video screens on their sides.

The new pieces were premiered at the fashion house’s at Cruise 2020 show at the TWA Flight Center at JFK airport in New York.

During the show, the screens displayed moving images of cities.

The bag comes in two styles: the Speedy Bandouliere 35, a handbag that zips down in the middle with two handles and a hand-held bucket bag with a short strap that the brand calls a Duffle bag.

Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, who of corse designed the peaces, described the prototype of the bags as a “cutting-edge fusion of technology and craft”

Let’s talk more about the technology behind it.

The flexible screens – which allow for 1920 x 1440 resolution – are made using OLED technology, which stands for organic light-emitting diode. It is a lighting technology that can produce extremely thin and flexible light panels that do not  require backlighting.

According to Louis Vuitton, the pieces are supposed to blur the lines between your smartphone and bag – a “fusion of savoir-faire and innovation”.

“Fusing cutting-edge technology with the maison’s signature savoir-faire, the new canvas displays moving images while taking the form of some of Louis Vuitton’s most iconic bags,” said the brand.

Louis Vuitton is calling them a prototype design, and unless it is a work of art, having flexi-display handbags are probably the last thing one would need in the digitally fragile age.

I personally think that unless you are a handbag or luxury gadget collector it is the last thing you need. But it is really impressive and nice to see such big revolution in the fashion industry when they star to actually fuze technology with their crafts.

MINK- the world’s first 3D make-up printer

Reading Time: 2 minutesGrace Choi the CEO and co-funder of Mink had first shown her innovative product back in 2014 at the TechCrunch Disrupt New York technology conference. The company and herself have been working ever since to create a fully workable 3D make-up printer.

These are the claims of the brand regarding this product:

Ultra Portable – 2.2 lbs and 8” x 6” x 4”. Travel and store with ease.

Speed + RangePrints – 16.7 million colors at 15 seconds per sheet. Connects via WiFi with the Mink App (iOS and Android).
Safety- Produced and manufactured in accordance with FDA rules and guidelines for cosmetics. Certifications: FDA, c
GMP, UL, UL-C, CE and FCC Part 15, Class B.
This all sounds very complicated to use right?
The PR team claims it is not.
All you have to do is download the Mink app, choose a picture you like, it could be a make-up look you like, a color scheme or whatever you like. Next connect wirelessly to the printer and import the image into the app. Insert a Mink make-up sheet into the tray and press sent to print. The product is immediately ready to apply.

Although 3D printing your make-up might seem like one tech addition too many, the entire process is actually extremely simple.

But its it really a necessity?

I think you don’t really need to have access to 16.7 million colors to be honest. Most women or men who use make up have their favorite color scheme, a favorite lipstick or even favorite consistency of a product. When one thing can do it all, then it is not really concentrating on any genre in particular. The actual performance of the eye-shadows is really poor. They lack pigmentation and are hard to blend. If it worked as well as they claim is does, the whole beauty industry would have already gone down and/or bankrupt. Nonetheless it is a revolutionary product and if they refine the concept a little more I think it would actually be a hit.

If you want to try it for yourself then the price of Mink is $295. As of now, only shipments within the U.S. will be made and delivered during the fall of 2020.
