Robots instead of waiters

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Have you ever wondered to be serviced by a robot in a restaurant? Is it crazy or it is just the future? Do robots have disadvantages or they are perfect for this job? Yet the waitressing profession is not based on just serving food or drinks, it is also well-developed chatting skills, and many more.

For the time being, robots in this profession do not work very well and are not able to exclude even 50% of working waiters. However, with human assistance, slowly this profession may need fewer workers. Besides, at the moment they have serious defects that make it impossible to take orders on their own. First, contrary to robots in factories, robots replacing waiters need charging because of their mobility. Unfortunately, the technology is not yet developed enough for robots to inform in advance about the state of their batteries or when finishing an order robot should not take another one, to avoid suddenly breaking contact with the guest and going to the charging station. Another disadvantage is excessive verbosity and lack of brevity in sentences or conversation. It has also been noted that robots do not serve customers who have an excessive amount of metal jewelry on.

All these strange errors that have not been predicted by the creators of such robots cause that, it takes longer to create fully robotic restaurants. I wonder if fast-food restaurants would have found robotization better…

The restaurant is called “Robotazia” and is located in Milton Keynes, UK.

Express yourself thanks to Nike

Recently the topic of Metaverse is getting louder and louder. For as long as I can remember Nike is associated with futuristic shoe models. Nike as a Brad which wants to appear as a company that catches up with the latest trends decided to purchase a firm called “RTFKT” which creates virtual shoes.

Probably you are thinking why did Nike invest in such a company? The answer is easy. Firstly, to appear as a brand of the future. Secondly, more and more youngsters spend their time on their computers. Probably COVID-19 helped with this trend. Following this observation, Nike decided to invest in a virtual future wherein a few years can getter popularity. Thirdly, when Metaverse pops out probably everyone will be obsessed with virtual reality. Naturally, everybody wants to express themselves so you will create an avatar. Nike predicted that situation and already started making steps in that area. Last but not least based on Gazeta Wyborcza all of us have different hobbies ones enjoy collecting cars others shoes. There probably will be someone willing to spend money just to collect Nike virtual stuff.

The world is constantly striving for virtual reality, virtual shoes, virtual “us”. But sometimes we need to stop and ask ourselves if virtual life can replace our own?

Vinyl records, walkmans, Spotify

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Have you ever noticed that ways of listening to music have been changing through the years? It’s likely that your first experience with music, when you were younger, was not like the present one. Nowadays you can have all types of music on one electronic device called a smartphone. What is more, there is an app Spotify which helps us find an unlimited number of songs. Such applications offer us various options not always necessary till we find them to be useful. Spotify, for instance,  offers a summary of what you have been listening to throughout the year.

Spotify launches '2020 Wrapped' with new features including quizzes, badges and, yes, stories | TechCrunch

The music app collects various data and at the end of every year releases a summary of the year. You can find information like your top 5 music performers, your favorite songs, minutes you have spent listening to music, or your favorite music type. Such data can be awakening feelings. Finally, you can see if you like calmer music or more energetic one. Consequently, you can reflect on whether your tastes have changed. As a funny fact Spotify this year recognized flow of the music and you could see if you were listening to aggressive music or relaxing one and based on that it created an image which illustrate color of your aura.

I think that Spotify’s idea met with success because it is normal that people are changing and this concept can help in it. Half of the success is understanding what has changed. Isn’t it wonderful what human evolution has done with every aspect of our lives?

Morning coffee?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

What would you say if I told you that you can optimize your morning routine? What’s more, you can reduce the time in the morning by shopping at the new Starbucks shop instead of preparing breakfast. No more bad coffee or bad breakfast. Starbucks is opening pick-up cafe shops. It hits the spot when you think about mornings.

let’s suppose that you want to have a delicious coffee in the morning. Your direction is Starbucks, but what you first see is an endless queue and you finally end up drinking that poor coffee at work. There can be better solution. Starbucks started collaboration with Amazon to create fully automated puck-up shop where there is no queue. Everything is designed to stop wasting your time. The shop is equipped with Amazon’s cashierless technology. Starbucks opens new shops in midtown Manhattan and new york City. They are planning to open the next shops next year.

I strongly feel that the new Starbucks strategy can be well received. Just think who wants to lose his time? Nobody. So why would you choose normal Starbucks?

Social media – the beginning of the end?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Nowadays almost everyone uses social media. If I asked you which social media are used the most frequently, the most common answer would be Instagram, Facebook, or both. However, what if I told you that it is not true or that these two social platforms are endangered?

As reported by Gazeta Wyborcza about two years ago Instagram was on top in popularity. Nowadays Instagram and Facebook are threatened by TikTok and Snapchat. How did this happen? Almost everybody uses Facebook or Instagram but the youngest generation those the age of 13 to 16 are not interested in those platforms. The youngest prefer using TikTok and Snapchat and this situation can weigh on Facebook’s existence. As Gazeta Wyborcza stated, according to research made by Piper Sandler about 35% of teenagers choose Snapchat as their favorite platform, 30%  – TikTok, and Instagram took third place with the percentage of 22%. Unfortunately, Instagram and Facebook have been on the market for a long time, which means that they can only copy the latest trends. They have stopped developing by themselves. This is also why Facebook has lost interest in the younger generation. The social platform is memorized as the older one and youngsters don’t want “old” generation apps. They want something new and fresh. This is why Mark Zuckerberg has started developing the new social net which is going to be just different from the other social platforms. For now, it is called “Meta” which is the short term for Metaverse. For this moment it cannot be continued because there is a gap in a technological solution. But everything is moving forward.

I strongly feel that Facebook and Instagram will be saved from oppression by Mark Zuckerberg. However, it is not excluded that the only rescue is “Meta”. You never know what will happen but the possibilities are unlimited.
