Snake Robots

Snake robots have many applications. The originators of such robots, as the name suggests, were snakes. Thanks to their flexibility and specific design, these devices can get into inaccessible places without losing accuracy in operation. It is a significant feature that allows it to be used, among other things, in operations (even in the case of throat cancer) as well as in the repair of pipes at the bottom of the ocean and many others.

As I mentioned before thanks to flexibility and at the same time accuracy in operation snake robots are the future of tools used for surgeries. According to the (bbc.com) robot snake called Cobra which was previously used for engineering jets and nuclear plants now is tested if it be able to do complex operations, including the surgery of throat cancer. University of Nottingham with Rolls-Royce joined forces to create this robot. The robot will probably be ready within 10 years.

On the market we have new drone. According to the (interestingengineering.com) new snake robot is called Eelume. It is drone capable of underwater navigation using cameras and sensors. Referring to (cnn.com) ,,It can be kept at a docking station at depths up to 500 meters (547 yards) for six months, without being brought back to the surface. The self-propelling robot can travel up to 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) before needing to return to its station to recharge. It can also swap out parts for different tasks, including tools to operate subsea valves, and cleaning brushes to remove marine growth and sediments.”[1]. Thanks to a diverse collection of equipment It can do a number of jobs, such as operating on subsea valves and removing marine vegetation and sediments. Quite impressive, isn’t it?

In summary, new technologies allows us to do unbelibevle things. By taking inspiration from nature we are able to create very useful robots. Robot Lawyer – law students in fear?

The first robot lawyer will start his job next month. This AI lawyer is brainchild company called DoNotPay. His first assignment will relate to traffic ticket. Defendant will only say things that AI suggest him. According to the NY Post ,,Should they lose the case, DoNoPay has agreed to cover any fines, according to the company’s founder and CEO, Joshua Browder.” [1]

How it works?

It is an application for smartphones that everyone can download. AI listens to case and immediately tells the defendant what to say by cans. It sounds simple, isn’t it?

Why was it created?

According to the DoNotPay their mission is ,,to level the playing field and make legal information and self-help accessible to everyone.”[2] For me it sounds a little bit utopian, but I hope that I am wrong and in the near future it will be accessible for everyone.

But there is one significant question. How good this software will be? We will find out that by the end of the next month when the first case will be over. Until then we just have to wait and imagine what court hearings will be like when this robot proves to be effective.

Ai in Architecture – another step in the automation of the profession.

For many people when in some kind of profession appears Ai it means that human will be trade up to “robots”. This assumption is wrong and become from misunderstanding the topic. In architecture Ai is implemented to help architects with their work and make it easier.

How Ai can be used?

According to the (builderspace.com) there are 11 ways to use Ai in architecture :

  1. Improving building efficiency
  2. BIM
  3. Familiarizing clients with structures
  4. Improving building safety
  5. Improving building
  6. Creating designs for large scale structures
  7. Introducing parametric architecture
  8. Preventing cost overruns
  9. Make construction sites more productive
  10. Reducing occupational hazards
  11. Encouraging offsite contrition [i]

Most of these ways facilitate and streamline the work and help architects in their contact with clients.  

BIM – What is it?

BIM in fact Building Information Model is an AI software for architects which allows them to design and construct wherewithal 3D Model. Every object in BIM has got geometry and ability to store data. These features allows contractors to maintain design integrity during project development. BIM has got 6 levels. Each level refers that how effectively or how many information is being shared during entire process. The higher the level, the greater the efficiency and sophistication. The greatest advantages are at levels 4, 5 and 6 :

  • More efficient site planning and scheduling
  • More efficient hand-offs between steps in the construction stage
  • Real-time cost visualization
  • Simplified cost analysis
  • Reduced energy consumption in the long run
  • Better operational management of the building or structure after handover

Is AI able to step in for architects?

As we know AI learns from projects to which it has access. Nowadays in most cases it is “just” technology that supports people and improves their work. Why I wrote “most cases” in previous sentence? But that is not the end.  As reported by producent (Envision) it also can recognise text or handwriting in over 60 languages. Moreover, that device is able to make a call to trust friend when the user is in need.

With those glasses users are able to discover world with more independence than before. Now identifying friends, thinking about whether the light was left or not, making a dinner, reading a book and many more daily activities are just easier to do, because Envision glasses will give information about what is in front of the user by saying everything out loud.

WILL IT CHANGE DISABLED PEOPLE LIVES?

In my opinion yes. As we all know ability to do everything without any obstacles or restrictions is important for everyone and this gadget will allow visually disabled people to be more independent.
