This polish startup is working on creating its own conversational bot, which would be free of the flaws of the revolutionary tool developed by OpenAI.

COO of the company – Bartosz Baziński claims that this revolutionary tool will be better than Chat GPT in terms of polish speech, and will not spread misinformation.

How Near Field Communication (NFC) Works?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Paying with your phone or NFC (Near Field Communication) works by utilizing a technology called RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). This technology works by having two components: an RFID tag and an RFID reader. The RFID tag is embedded in the phone or payment device and contains a unique ID number that is used to identify the user. The RFID reader reads the unique ID number, and then sends it to the payment processor to complete the transaction. NFC specifically uses a shorter range of communication and is commonly used for payments and data transfers between two devices.

How did it all started?

Google, Apple, and Garmin all introduced their own payment platforms that utilized NFC technology. Google was the first to introduce NFC payments with its Google Wallet platform in 2011. Apple followed in 2014 with its Apple Pay platform, which allowed users to securely store credit card information in their iPhones. Finally, Garmin launched its own contactless payment platform, Garmin Pay, in 2016, which allowed users to securely store payment information on their Garmin devices such as smartwatches. All of these payment platforms use NFC technology to securely transmit payment information between the mobile device and the payment terminal.

POTENTIAL THREATS

Although, NFC technology is a great way to make transactions and payments more secure and convenient, there are some potential threats associated with its usage. One of the biggest threats is the possibility of hackers intercepting NFC signals and gaining access to sensitive financial information. Additionally, if a device containing an NFC chip is lost or stolen, there is the potential for someone else to access the data on that chip. Finally, due to its proximity-based nature, NFC technology can be used to track users, which could be a privacy concern, at least to some of us.

Is NFC Still a Vulnerable Technology? - Security Intelligence

To sum up, Near Field Communication (NFC) is a secure and convenient technology used to make payments and transfer data between two devices. Google, Apple, and Garmin have all introduced payment platforms using NFC technology, which helps to make transactions more secure and convenient. However, there are potential threats associated with the usage of NFC technology, which we should bare in mind. Therefore, users should take extra precautions when using NFC technology for payments and data transfers.

Ultimately, I wonder what could be a new usage of NFC technology in the near future. Write in the comment section down below if you have any ideas.

Paypal’s loss of credibility

Reading Time: 2 minutes

What is Paypal?

PayPal is an electronic commerce company that facilitates payments between parties through online transfers. PayPal allows customers to establish an account on its platform, which is connected to a user’s debit card or checking account. Once identification and proof of funds are confirmed, users can begin sending or receiving payments to and from other PayPal accounts online or through the company’s app.

Since a few years back from now, there has been a lot of controversy around Paypal. Especially about the chargeback system which they developed so as the random accounts banning and clousure. Basically most of the vendors I know who accepts Paypal as one of their payment gateaways had a problem with the chargeback system, because when someone wanted to return the goods they ordered, Paypal could sometimes ban vendor’s account preventing access to money. The worst thing about it in my opinion is that Paypal did not give any specific reason on why those accounts got banned. They can also freeze your rescources for 180 days, also without giving any specific reason.

That is why Paypal has drawn criticism for making decisions to close customers’ accounts without providing details or explanation. PayPal has faced lawsuits in response to its decision to close a vast number of accounts without providing customers with specific reasons. PayPal has also been criticized for its customer service practices, including long wait times and a lack of helpful responses. This has a reflection in Paypal stock prices which plummeted down from around 200$ to 70$ per share.

Lawsuit: PayPal Accused of Unlawfully Freezing User Accounts and Funds - Legal Reader

Apparently Paypal has since taken steps to improve its customer service, providing more detailed and helpful communication when closing accounts.

Moreover Paypal’s security system is too sensitive which can for example ban your account access when you want to buy something while being on vacation or making a larger transaction that usual . I personally had to deal with it, and it was not a pleasant experience.

Another controversy

The most recent thing that happened was a class action lawsuit about Paypal’s new policy concerning fines. You could get a 2500$ fine if you spread misinformation.

What has been your experience with PayPal? Do you feel secure when using PayPal? Maybe you disagree with me? I strongly encourage you to post your opinion about it in the comment section down below 🙂

Growth of FinTech industry

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Fintech (financial technology) what is it?

Fintech is a parabank (an entity that conducts activities that are characteristic of a bank based on regulations other than only the banking law.)

Poland’s fintech industry is rapidly growing, with many entrepreneurs and startups arising in the field. The country has a strong financial infrastructure with a large banking sector as well as an advanced telecommunications network. There is also a large and diverse talent pool of developers and innovators who are eager to invest and develop new fintech solutions.

Fintech is also playing an important role in Poland’s digital transformation, with a number of banks and financial services providers utilizing the latest technology to increase efficiency and improve customer experience. I will not raise the issue if it is good that we are going in the direction of removing all the physical money.

Fintech’s like Zen or less known such us Monese, Monzo (few months ago Revolut was the most popular Fintech in this industry, but now transformed into a real bank working under bank law). do not use physical facilities. Most of them have only virtual offices where you can not go and get your banking things do. Every time you want to contact your bank, you have to do it via “live chat” or email which makes it difficult to quickly settle your banking matters.

Fintech’s operate based on technical accounts attached to the card. Which can be an advantage for some people that they are not subject to enforcement proceedings and are free from bailiffs or the tax office.

Final words

Fintech has the potential to revolutionize how people manage their finances, but it is important for those considering using a fintech service to understand the risks associated with it. While fintech may offer convenience and flexibility, users should be aware of any security concerns related to privacy of data and other financial details. Additionally, they should consider potential additional costs such as transaction fees or interest rates when deciding whether or not to use a particular service. In order to make an informed decision, it is essential to research any fintech service thoroughly before signing up.

What is your opinion about those parabanks? Do you use them?

Let me know in the comments down below.

Keyless car entry attacks

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Keyless entry technology has been released by the biggest car companies. For some of you that do not know what is it. Let me explain. The main purpose of this brilliant piece of tech is to allow car owner to get into it without any interaction besides pulling the handle. It is possible thanks to keys and cars using the same algorithms where the key sends a signal to your car which has to be the matching.

I will concentrate on one of the most dangerous, time and cost effective type of attack which is not well known in Poland.

Replay attack

The best method if you want to steal your neighbour’s ride. Its simplicity is almost unbelievable.

In order to perform that type of attack you only need a 20$ arduino board and a piece of code which is available online on github for free. I will not link it in this blog post, because I do not want to be responsible of you commiting a car theft later.

How it might look in practice?

The first step is to leave the arduino board somewhere under the car with the programme turned on which is looking for a key signal. When the owner of a car unlocks it, it will record the original signal and send it to the attacker. The second and also the last step of perfoming this attack is to come near the car with mobile device which can emmit a signal in order to repeat the original signal which was sent to us earlier. Then attacker can casually get into the car, start it and drive towards the setting sun.

I found a video which shows that kind of illegal practice, of course in educational purposes. I will link it down below if this topic caught your attention and you want to know more about it in order to be informed and know how to protect yourself against common car theft methods.

What do you think about technology which is create to make our lives easier and more enjoyable, but at the same time creates an opportunity which someone might use against us.

Do you think there are more examples of that kind of tech ? I strongly encourage you to discuss about that in the comment section down below.
