Elon Musk announced that his company Neuralink plans to test its chip on a person in half a year.

The well-known multi-billionaire Elon Musk also runs the electric car manufacturer Tesla, Space X, Starlink, and, more recently, the social network Twitter. At an event called “Show and Tell”, which took place in the US, Elon Musk announced that his company Neuralink could implant its chip in a person’s head within the next six months.

Neuralink’s goal is to create a device that can be implanted in the brain and used to control a computer or phone using brain activity. The businessman also reports that with the help of Neuralink chips, people with disabilities will be able to move and communicate. Musk also claims that the chips can help restore vision.

Musk noted that the company has already sent most of the documents necessary for such studies to regulatory authorities. Previously, in recent years, the company has been conducting animal trials to gain approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin human clinical trials

“We want to be extremely careful and certain that it will work well before putting a device into a human,” Musk said during the presentation. The broadcast was carried out on the Neuralink YouTube channel.

In 2020, the device was implanted in pigs, and last year, Neuralink showed a video of a monkey playing a simple game of Pong using an implanted chip. In Elon’s recent presentation, videos of the monkeys were shown again: in the video demonstration, one of the monkeys was able to “type” the phrase “Welcome to show and tell” using its implant.

Elon also stated at the presentation that he would have implanted himself in his brain “in fact, in one of these demos, I will.” He also confirmed this statement on his Twitter.

Italian designers presented a project of a floating city in the shape of a turtle

Italian design studio Lazzarini has unveiled a new floating city concept shaped like a turtle. The idea is that ancient people believed that the world existed on the back of a giant space turtle. The Lazzarini designer thought it would be interesting to get a feel of living on a floating creature therefore, developed the concept of a floating city for 60,000 guests, which will be shaped like a turtle, powered by solar energy.

As planned, it will be a huge floating continent that is twice the size of the Roman Colosseum. The “terayacht” concept, is called Pangeos because it takes its name from the huge continent “Pangaea” that existed many years ago. The Pangeos will include hotels, malls, parks, an aircraft runway, and helipads.

The turtle-shaped vessel will be 550 meters long and 610 meters wide and will be built in 8 years. If the project is successfully built, it will be the largest water structure ever built by humans. Despite the huge size of the vessel, it will be able to reach speeds of 5 knots thanks to nine engines with a capacity of 16,800 hp. each. While swimming, the large wings will be powered by the breaking waves that will produce energy. In addition, solar panels are installed on the roof, which provides part of the necessary clean energy to power the terayacht.

As mentioned earlier, the ship will have its own airport and helipads, they will be placed on the roof of the structure. Pangeos will also have its own shipyard called Terashipyard which will be 650 meters wide and 600 meters long, providing direct access to the sea.

Obviously now this is just a concept of an incredible project, but Pierpaolo Lazzarini who is the author of the concept hopes that his project will soon become a reality, the estimated cost of building the project is 8 billion dollars.

LG introduced a stretchable display

On November 8, 2022, LG announced a prototype display that can be pulled, wrinkled, and twisted. A message about the new product appeared on the official website of the brand. This is the world’s first 12″ high-resolution stretchable display that can be stretched up to 14″

“The stretchable display’s revolutionary technology offers next-level versatility for various daily scenarios,” LG Display wrote. “Easily attachable to curved surfaces such as skin, clothing, furniture, automobiles, and aircraft, this unique innovation expands the potential of the display in various industries including fashion, wearables, mobility, and gaming.”

Previously, Samsung and Sony released foldable displays, but the peculiarity of the LG display is that it is not just a flexible or roll screen. It is a rubber material that can be pulled in all directions at any angle. The LG display has been under development since 2020 in collaboration with 20 South Korean research institutes and is expected to be completed in 2024.

The prototype is made of a special material that is used in the manufacture of contact lenses, while the screen has a fairly good pixel density, and supports RGB. Also, the screen is equipped with LEDs that do not tear when twisted and otherwise affected, as they have a spring structure.

Stretchable displays open up a new vector of technology development. Such displays can be used in everyday life and they will not even break when dropped, as they are made of rubber material.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship could make its first orbital flight in December.

SpaceX Starship is the development of SpaceX, owned by billionaire Elon Musk. It is predicted to be the most powerful launch vehicle ever built and also the first to demonstrate full reusability.

The Starship is a 120-meter rocket with a diameter of 9 meters and can carry a load of up to 100 tons. The rocket consists of a “SUPER HEAVY” first-stage booster and the Starship. The first stage after the delivery of the shuttle into orbit, will return and stand back on its 6 legs, and the shuttle itself can be configured to transport goods or people

October 31, according to a Reuters source – SpaceX plans to conduct the first flight of Starship in December of this year suggested a senior NASA official. NASA is interested in developing the Starship project as the company plans to use the rocket as the first manned lunar lander for its Artemis lunar exploration program. 

In May 2021, in Texas, a prototype Starship took to the air to a height of 10 kilometers to demonstrate the successful takeoff and landing of the upper part of the rocket. In December, it is planned to test the entire system, including the 70-meter Super Heavy booster and the Starship itself, 50 meters high. 

As part of the first launch, the booster is going to be returned to earth, and the spacecraft will spend about 90 minutes in space before returning and landing off the coast of Hawaii.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which oversees the safety of commercial launch sites, has yet to issue a license to launch SpaceX. It is reported that the FAA can issue a license “only after SpaceX provides all outstanding information and the agency can fully analyze it”. 

Starship is supposed to be ready to replace SpaceX’s old Falcon 9 range of rockets, possibly introducing concepts like space tourism. The rocket will also be able to be used by professional astronauts for expeditions and further research.

Flying electric cars tested in Dubai

XPeng Inc has developed the XPeng X2 flying car, which has been successfully tested in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

XPeng is a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer that was established in 2014 by Xia Heng (Henry Xia) and He Tao. The goal of XPeng is to create smart cars using the latest technologies with the possibility of using their products by ordinary users.

On Monday, October 10, the novelty took off over the Marina in Dubai, a prototype of its electronic taxi, which will soon be able to transport people around cities over the main road routes. The tests took place with an empty cockpit, but the company says it conducted a manned flight test in July 2021 last year.

The developers claim that the car can reach speeds of 130 km/h (81 mph) and a flight time of 35 minutes. It is controlled by an eight-rotor design and can carry two passengers 

at the same time. Also, the car was specially created for Urban Air Mobility (UAM). Chinese engineers were able to provide fast and affordable point-to-point travel inside the city without specially equipped takeoff and landing sites.

The XPeng X2 weighs 360 kg (794 lb) and has a maximum takeoff weight of 560 kg (1,235 lb). The Chinese company achieved such a small weight by making the body of the aircraft from carbon fiber

The approximate cost of the novelty is from $126,000.00 – $236,000.00 USD. In the future, tests of the car in Europe are planned, and serial production will occur in 2024.

Theoretically, flying cars can be a discovery for mankind and transport people high above traffic jams, but so far the problem with flight duration has not been resolved (35 minutes without recharging), as well as security problems and general conditions for flying many such cars at the same time
