Satellite internet is the future !

Reading Time: 2 minutes

These days, access to high-speed internet is a must-have. Connection to virtual platforms gives unlimited possibilities and it is hard to imagine not being able to use the Internet whenever we want to. In this article i will present to you the idea of Low-Earth orbit satellites that can provide milions of people with well-working broadcast.

Of course, we are already familiar with the Starlink project by SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk , but this is only the beginning when it comes to revolutionising satellite internet.Companies such as the already mentioned SpaceX and others like Amazon or OneWeb have plans on launching dozens of devices that would reinforce the 4g and enable a great access to Internet from everyplace on earth (even on planes and boats !) for an affordable price.

Of course it is a huge investment and the payback would be spread over many years, although I believe that for such huge companies this will not be a problem and they will be able to take the risk. Amazon in its “Project Kuiper” involves launching over 3 thousand sattelites creating a big competition for already existing starlink.

But what does it accually change ? Satellites themselves are getting cheaper and what we are witnessing right now could be a revolution in the mobile phone industry and internet providers. these brands will create a whole new market and be a huge competitor to mobile networks. Low-orbit satellites will be a great invention also in the field of gaming , because the delay in the games would decrease, giving a better expirience for the customers. Nowadays everyone uses classic solutions, but who knows maybe someday we won’t be using terrestrial Internet at all.

Although it is a brilliant idea, there are a few obstacles on the road to success. I have already mentioned the money aspect. Buying new machines that need to be launched in space is of course a huge expense, but there are other important aspects except from money and the internet. The SpaceTrash problem comes to the fore. Sending thousands of satellites into orbit can cause a concentration of waste in that area, which could lead to objects falling toward the earth’s surface. Another thing is that it could possibly hinder the work of astronomers , as light pollution would increase significantly.

In such cases deployment of new equipment to the space zone should be regulated by law. This is an aspect that is difficult for me to assess, because on the one hand it is a no-man’s land , although intense action in this sphere can affect the welfare of all countries and our ecosystem, even if it’s purpose is to help mankind and make our lives easier.

In my opinon , this idea would be great for isolated countries/islands or household’s far away from bigger cities. For me it is an interesting topic and I would love to see your opinion on it in the comments section.

instagram shadowbanning and hidding posts.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Shadowban is a term at the sound of which content creators get uncomfortable feelings. It’s a very frustrating thing , but what does it have to do with business and application development?

With one of the newest instagram updates, anyone using proffesional account will have ability to chceck wheater their posts are being shadowbanned or unable to reach the “explore” area. The whole procedure is described by CEO himself (i will link the video 🙂 ) . Finally the problem has been partly solved.

People are getting shadowbanned by violating terms concerning amounts of posts , followers likes etc. it was developed to get rid of bots , spammers and accounts that are buying followers to gain more reach. Although the problem has spread all across the regular instagramers.

For many years, this seemed to be a serious problem due to misconceptions about posting. The number of cases where ordinary people as well as full-time developers got shadowban without their knowledge is insane. The fact alone that anybody could recieve restrictions without their knowledge is ridicolous itself, and i understand that everyone needs to agree to instagram terms before using the app, but wouldn’t it be a more reasonable option to inform and remind users about them violating the terms , before applying the “hidden punishment” ?

This update is crucial for activists , reporters , humanitarian crisis posts or even artists. In each category there might be a lot of misunderstanding or agorithm fails that could cause in account block or ban .

Instagram Will Start Blurring 'Sensitive' Content On Its Platform | HuffPost UK Tech

For example things like war-photos could be perceived as violence or body exposure in art-photography may be interpret as pornography. The border is very subjective and in many cases it should be reviewed by a special consultant.

It’s hard to call shadowbanning or sensitive content patches as censorship , because this devices were invented to save content and make a safe platform , not to stand against it. Unfortunatelly in cases that i described above the situation is difficult and i hope that IG will find a method to solve the problem so that everybody could post without worrying about their account being unfairly dispended. Tell me what do you think about it …

San Francisco’s killer robots

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In recent days decision about deploying police armed robots has been revoked , mainly due to the huge outcry and protests across the Bay Area. People manifested against the usage of machines to take human lifes ,but is such strong outrage reasonable ?

I think the public’s fears are completely understandable , especially in the American reality where the general access to weapons and the strict approach of the police officers cause unpleasant feelings, although I think the fear of those “killer” robots is mainly due to lack of knowledge about these project.

A woman holds up a sign while taking part in a demonstration about the use of robots by the San Francisco Police Department outside of City Hall Monday.

As high-profile officers explain these machines are going to be used in cases of high emergency. For example to force a way into the occupied building . Its a device that should prevent the loss of lifes , not to kill people … These robots would be used in the extraordinary situations and operated only by trained specialists. Lethal usage would only be insisted when the lifes of the innocent citizens could be endangered.

However there are still some moral ascpects which stand in the way of introducing killer robots into police equipment. Main reason of course is excessive arming, but also moral dilema of whether the machine should be used to take human life. The first one makes a lot of sense , because there is a lot of room for overusage of this lethal device, although the second statement is rather inaccurate , because the robots are not particullary designed to kill people , but to reduce risk of putting officers in danger.

It’s hard for me to tell if the denial of Killer robots in San Francisco was a correct decision . In many cases this invention would help in the special-forces operations, on the other hand it’s disturbing that robots designed to defuse bombs are going to be used to carry explosives.

Tell me what you think about it , was the decision correct ?

Galactica and it’s problems

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A big fail of Meta’s newest program is a case of AI failure that happened in recent times. In fact the public demo was available only for three days before it was taken down due to a huge wave of critisism and errors that could result in a lot of trouble…

But first of all what was Galacitca ? The AI model developed by Meta was meant to be a great tool for scientific research. The program was supposed to be doing all the job for us. Gathering information , articles or even things like : solving equations and creating statements based on the combined knowledge. It sounds like a perfect device , but the results were rather unsatisfying.

The basic problem that has begun to develop was that the statements created by AI were bizzare and incorrect. Program started to build articles that contained informations that seemed to be reliable, but there was no actual knowledge inclued. The case was very serious, because some of the articles reffered to real people, but the sources were fictional.

Another inaccuracies appeared in filtering systems , where subjects like for example racism or AIDS disease were unavailable. Michael Black  the director of the Max Planck Institute posted his concerns about this project on twitter platform stating : “It is potentially distorting and dangerous for science.”

Right after i read about galactica i had two things in my mind : great admiration for AI ( how fast it evolves etc. ) and great fear of how this technology might be used to cause damage and general disinformation. unfortunately I had a strong association with “rewriting history” phenomenon that has occurred for example in soviet union. I think that such programs should be tested much more precisely before being published , because a lot of people these days cant verify the informations that they have been given. Which can as I already said cause some trouble or be used for malicious puropses by hackers , terrorists or other evil ones…

So as not to end on such an unpleasant note .I personally think that general idea of Galactica was brilliant. A great programme that could be a huge time saver, however, we can see that it will still be a long time before we can use this software freely. We need to be aware that it is still a bot that is not (yet 🙂 ) able to filter the real fact from the fictional one.

I am curious to see how this model will develop and how quickly the team responsible for the project will get over these problems. If they manage to overcome the obstacles at all.

Its hard to think of a way how digital world and fashion industry might collaborate and create new business plans. Graphic design programs are enabling designers to compose and test outfit ideas without wasting time and materials ,websites improve sales and these tools are for sure a great game changer , although they are still mostly used for developing physical products . The key to the success , however,  was gaming industry .

The aspect of clothing has always been a big part of gaming. Dressing up your character in different costumes/armor to increase statistics or just for the joy of persona development is to this day a very important subject considered by the developers and graphic designers . In games like for example NBA2K or League of Legends , players can exchange real money for in-game currencies to acquire clothing for their fictional character . Big fashion houses like Balenciaga , Moncler or Louis Vuitton have already stepped up in the gaming world. The collaborations between LV and league as well as Balenciaga-Fortnite occurred in huge global scale success.

Many people can ask what is the purpose of spending money on non-psychical items  like clothing for game character, especially if it doesn’t improve the game quality or champion abilities. The reason for that is very simple . It works exactly like in the real world , players want to show off their new digital looks or  buy new outfits to change the character looks the same way as people do in real life . Another thing is the design availability . New designer clothes are definitely upmarket  products , whereas digital pieces are much more affordable. The fact that gamers can express themselves without even standing up from the computer desk is also a very interesting thing that is slowly but surely taking over the world.

I think that usage of artificial intelligence and  graphic programs is the future of fashion designing . Of course the demand for the physical clothing made of actual materials will always be the number one priority , but the online world has unlimited potential and this area of digitalized clothing business is still a fairly new unexplored field.

I’m excited to see how these trend will develop and what other areas of virtual world will be conquered by fashion industry.
