Adoption of 5G Internet

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Emerging technologies are changing the way we live, work, and communicate. One such technology is 5G, the fifth generation of cellular network technology. 5G promises to revolutionize our communication by providing faster speeds, lower latency, and more reliable connectivity. However, like any new technology, 5G has its pros and cons. In this blog post, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of 5G technology.

Advantages of 5G Technology

Greater Transmission Speed: One of the most significant advantages of 5G technology is its greater transmission speed. The 5G network spectrum includes the millimeter-wave band, which is expected to be 100 times faster than Fourth Generation (4G) networks with transmission speeds up to 10 Gbps. This inevitably leads to faster transmission of images and videos. A high-resolution video that would normally take a long time to download can now be done in the blink of an eye using the 5G technology.

Lower Latency: Latency refers to the time interval between an order being received and the given instruction being executed. In 5G technology, the delay time is around 4-5 milliseconds (ms) and can be reduced to 1 ms, i.e., ten times less than the latency of 4G technology. This makes it possible for us to watch high-speed virtual reality videos with no interruptions. Due to this particular feature of 5G technology, it can be extremely helpful in fields other than IT, like medicine and construction fields.

Increased Connectivity: Since the 5G network uses more spectrum, it allows connection with a greater number of devices, a hundred times increase in traffic capacity, to be precise. This increased connectivity will enable more devices to connect to the internet simultaneously without any lag or delay.

Better Coverage: Anybody who has tried to get decent cellular service at a crowded concert or sports event knows that it can often be a challenge. Thousands of mobile phones competing for the same cellular service can overwhelm even the best Fourth Generation (4G)/Long-Term Evolution (LTE) networks. However, with 5G, more connectivity can be provided to these areas with lower latency and expanded access for larger groups who may need it.

Improved Communication: With its low latency and high speed, 5G is expected to enable faster and more efficient communication between people and devices. It will also provide ubiquitous connectivity to many more devices.

Disadvantages of 5G Technology

Costly: We need skilled engineers to install and maintain a 5G network. Additionally, the equipment required for a 5G network is costly, resulting in increased costs for arrangement and maintenance phases. Not to forget that 5G smartphones are costly too.

Development: The 5G technology is still under development, resulting in investing more time before it is fully operational without any issues such as security and privacy of the user.

Environmental Degradation: For establishing a 5G network, more towers and energy will be required for proper functioning, which will result in the degradation of forest land and resources, adding another cause to global warming.

Radiations: To establish a 5G network we require switching from Fourth Generation (4G) to Fifth Generation (5G) network which means both networks will operate together causing more radiation that will have long-lasting consequences on humans and wildlife.

Dangerous for Wildlife: Some studies have found that there are certain insects that absorb high frequencies used in Fourth Generation (4G) or Fifth Generation (5G) networks.

In conclusion, emerging technologies like 5G have their pros and cons. While they offer significant advantages like greater transmission speed, lower latency, increased connectivity, better coverage, and improved communication; they also pose significant risks like being costly, under development, environmental degradation due to increased towers and energy requirements for proper functioning; radiation causing long-lasting consequences on humans and wildlife; being dangerous for wildlife.

Engine used: Bing AI

I decided to do more research about this topic rather than use AI-generated text. Bing AI was helpful with providing guidance to my research, however, it was less thorough when being asked prompts such as, “What speeds can new 5G technology perform at as compared to old 3G technology we had years ago?”. I didn’t necessarily agree with every article and the points that were being driven. Some argue that the rapid deployment of 5G infrastructure may pose environmental concerns due to increased energy consumption and electronic waste. Additionally, there are privacy and security concerns related to the vast amount of data transmitted through 5G networks, raising questions about data protection and surveillance. There are many mixed opinions about this topic and it is hard to trust a single source and outline where biases lay.

iPhone 15 will have no ProMotion and AOD feature

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Not so long time ago Apple has unveiled the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models, which had LTPO displays that support ProMotion refresh rates from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. The panel also allows the two smartphones to offer the AOD (always-on display) feature. Apple has limited these displays to the Pro models, and it is likely to remain so for the future iPhone 15 series.

What can we expect from the iPhone 15? | KSNF/KODE | FourStatesHomepage.com

According to the leak, the standard iPhone 15 devices will not come equipped with LPTO displays, meaning that the devices will not have ProMotion and always-on display support. The source also reports that Apple has settled the agreement on supplies for the iPhone 15 and will begin mass production soon. However, only the Pro series will support the 120Hz refresh rate, while regular and Plus models will have a regular 60Hz screen.

AOD is a relatively new feature for Apple smartphones, which recently appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max versions. Thus, it will be impossible for the iPhone 15 models to support AOD without the LTPO display, as the 1Hz refresh rate (available with LPTO) allows the screen to remain on without draining the battery.

Earlier, display analyst Ross Young also claimed that all models in the iPhone 15 series would support the Dynamic Island feature, but the standard models would not have LTPO panels due to production scale limitations.

The Vanilla iPhone 15 models may not receive the latest LTPO panels, but they may have a more energy-efficient OLED display driver chip manufactured using a 28-nanometer process. Current models use a chip based on a 40-nm process. It is expected that the 28-nm chip in the iPhone 15 models will significantly reduce power consumption, resulting in a longer battery life.

iBanana 14 and 14 Plus

Reading Time: 2 minutes

There are some good news for both Apple fans and those who like feeling bright and fresh (and for Minions fans). Apple has announced yellow versions of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus.

In September 2022 Apple announced iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus which were introduced in several color options, including black (midnight), white (moonlight), purple, blue, and the Product(RED) variant. Thus, the Pro version line does not have a color variation change, at least for now. Nowadays the iPhone 14 line looks like this:

The iPhone 14 lineup is shown in the full range of colors.

Sure thing, in terms of functionality, they are identical to the other colors. The price is also unchanged, starting from $799 (from 5199 PLN in Poland) for a regular iPhone 14, and from $899 (from 5899 PLN in Poland) for Plus version.

Pre-orders will be available since March 10th in 60 countries. For those who prefer shopping in a physical store, the new iPhones will be available for sale on March 14th along with new canary-yellow silicone case colors. It is officially proved that the fact of releasing new color is related to demand and theoretically increases Apple iPhone mid-product sales. It also gives the company a reason to refresh the straps for the Apple Watch at some point.

LG will Provide Apple iPhone with Foldable Screens

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As it was reported earlier, Samsung is the only supplier of those collapsible panels for the foldable iPhone, but DigiTimes reports, that LG Display – a South Korean technological giant, is going to help Apple with the first iPhone foldable-screen creation.

It is predicted as in the case with an OLED 7,3-7,6 inch screen, Apple is going to provide the device with a stylus similar to S Pen.  Also, Apple has introduced a new kind of construction of the hinge part, which is inside the case, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip presented. This kind of construction is aimed to prevent dust inside the hinge system or phone itself.

Besides, Apple is reported to use a chemical hardening of the ceramic protection screen, that can’t be broken while flipping and it will prevent unevenness on the screen caused by multiple folding. It is still unknown if a protection glass (as the company is going to begin using a protection glass starting from iPhone 12s) on the back smartphone panel is awaited and there is still no information about the camera module, that will be used in the device.

However, the smartphone is planned to have 8Gb of RAM and what is more stunning – 1TB of flash memory, which makes the device one of the most spacious phones in the world. The cost of it is predicted to be about $1500, which is quite fine according to the company’s market position, but for example, the cost of its main competitor – Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is about $1300-$1400.

How the New iPhone 12s Pro will Look Like

Reading Time: 2 minutes

An unknown Chinese source announced the design of a new iPhone 12s Pro in high resolution, and it demonstrates the main differences in the way it looks and a few differences in general characteristics.

In general, it looks just like its previous “brother” – iPhone 12: it has got a flat frame along the perimeter of the whole case and a square camera module. Even though, all the surfaces, including the camera module, will be covered with a protection glass, as has already been reported before.

The smartphone is informed to lose its charging port. There are only holes for a speaker and microphone in the lower part of the phone. It is really hard to say now if it is an advantage. It means the phone will be charged by wireless chargers only and it is predicted, Apple will refuse regular chargers due to the MagSafe technology. Also, it will help to make the phone more protected from water and dust, however, lots of complaints are expected to appear on the point.

Some good news for gamers – iPhone 12s Pro will get a 120Hz refresh-rate screen (also, they say that there might be a possibility to buy a 180Hz or 240Hz iPhone modification), which will resurrect Apple-gamers’ opinion after the grand fiasco of iPhone 11 Pro Max. And of course, it will get a dactyloscopy sensor located below the screen. A great-known notch will be smaller, which will give a bit more space for the screen itself. Also, Apple agreed upon bringing Touch ID back, moreover, they made an in-display function for it. One of the possible reasons for this decision is the effect of COVID-19, as many iPhone 10 and 11 series users struggled with unlocking their phones due to wearing a face mask.

An official presentation of the iPhone 12s series is expected to be held later this year, approximately in September.

Mobile gamers hate iPhone 12 series

Reading Time: 2 minutesRecently Apple has presented their new products – iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro. However, many users are unhappy about the new line of the company, though they even got the new A14 Bionic core inside all of their models.

The problem is Apple decided to decrease the battery capacity of all 12 series devices, but according to the information given on the official website, the number of working hours didn’t change in comparison with iPhone 11 series. Unfortunately, when the situation comes to 3D-gaming sessions, the issue has become even more perceptible.

According to the Phone Arena 3D Gaming Battery Test results, iPhone 11 can be playable 2,5 times longer than the new flagman of the Apple company, where iPhone 11 can stay out of charge for more than 7,5 hours and iPhone 12 can be used for only 3 hours. This fact neglects the user experience of using A14 Bionic, to the side of its previous version. What is the most striking, that iPhone 11 can handle even more time without charging, than its higher brother iPhone 11 Pro.

However, many mobile gamers search for playing on non-iOS phones, as Android-powered phones give them more opportunities and better gaming experience. For example, if you look at the top segment of Android phones, you will be highly interested in using Xiaomi Mi10 Pro, that can handle around 10 hours of gaming, and Samsung Galaxy S20 (and it’s FE version), with more than 8 hours no-charging gaming, as these phones are completed with powerful 8-core processors (Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 for Xiaomi and Exynos 990 for Samsung).

Concerning regular users, iPhone 12 Pro, surprisingly, is on the top of the PhoneArena Browsing Battery test, but still stays lower than Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and Google Pixel 5.

Generally speaking, I would not recommend buying iPhone 12 series for those, who use their phone mostly for playing games, but for those, who prefer style over high performance it will really be a great choice!

Apple banned in China

Reading Time: 3 minutes

You can’t buy Apple iPhones in China anymore!

Well, actually… For now the court injuction is not in force yet, however, things may change in the future. Let’s start from the beginning.

Qualcomm dispute over patents

The open battle between Apple and Qualcomm over intellectual property covering wireless networks and devices has lasted for quite a while now, so you could think that things are going to get resolved soon. In fact, not so long ago both enterprises decided to break off negotiations and go to the court. For one of them it wasn’t the best idea. A Chinese court decided to preliminary ban import and sale of almost all models of iPhone’s which are available in China. What is interesting is the fact, that the case did not relate to the wireless networks what actually started this dispute, but the violation of two patents which the Qualcomm owns.

Apple is not going to give up

Apple has issued a statement, however, saying that “all iPhone models remain available for our customers in China.” Apparently, according to the filling, new models with iOS 12 have undergone changes which void Qualcomm’s complaint.

“Qualcomm’s effort to ban our products is another desperate move by a company whose illegal practices are under investigation by regulators around the world,” Apple in a statement for CNBC

What is more, iOS 12 can run on all the devices named in the decision, so the impact of it is still unclear. If the court rule were to come in force it would be a huge step back for Apple, since China generates 1/5 of the company’s revenue.

The future

Even though it might look like Apple is in big trouble, the fact is that they have a solid background.

“Qualcomm is asserting three patents they had never raised before, including one which has already been invalidated. We will pursue all our legal options through the courts.”

This means that Apple is going to appeal to higher instances, for what they 10 days from the day of the preliminary ban. However, the future doesn’t look so bright for Qualcomm either. Apple stopped paying licensing fees and no longer uses its chips in the iPhone’s. That’s contributed to a string of annual revenue declines for the company.

Recently Apple CEO Tim Cook has stated that he has interest in settling the case, but he expects a lengthy legal battle.  Considering that the dispute is already two years old, we might not see the end of it in the upcoming months. As for now we can only sit back and watch how the things are going to get resolved.

Average-Smartphone-Screen-Size, phonearena

Source: phonearena.com

For a long time we observe the trend of increasing of the size of the phone. Personally I find it strange – from 4-5 years I have the same phone – iPhone 4S – with a 3.5 inch screen which (as Steve Jobs) I consider as the perfect size. Apparently the rest of the world thinks otherwise. On the one hand I understand it – the larger screen has a lot of advantages:

  • a much better browsing of websites;
  • watching movies or photos is much more convenient;
  • games on larger screens seem to be more realistic and controlling them by the touch screen does not cover it in most by our fingers;
  • they are easier to use for people with low vision after setting a larger font – even my mother recently bought a Lumia 640 XL with almost 6-inch(!) screen “because now she sees better “;

asians

It looks funny, isn’t it?

On the other hand I think that phones so large are crazy. In recent years several times I have been in China where the trend seems to be even bigger. Perhaps due to the small size of the Chinese people but when they were talking on their phablets they looked as if each one of them held a tablet! I hate to think how uncomfortable it is and the fact that it just looks silly (everyone – not only Asians). Of course some of them can cope by using headphones but it is not always a possibility.

I-phone-bend-mainAnother important issue is the discomfort of carrying them – phones with a 5-6 inch screens barely fit in the pockets of jackets not to mention the pants. And even if someone succeeded this is not always the safest way to keep a smartphone (remember how bendgate started?).

This screen size also affects negatively on the performance of smartphone components. Today batteries in most mobilephones do not stand up all day (and for a long time it did not change) and they have even more difficult task to do in phones with such large screens. The same applies to the processor’s performance – the bigger screen and resolution the harder it has to work and this may slow its efficiency (eg. in smaller number of displayed frames-per-second in movies or games). Manufacturers are trying to solve this problem by packing inside their devices newer and more modern processors but not everyone is able to afford change their smartphone every 3-6 months.bateriea7_cpu

Unfortunately in recent times this trend completely pushed out of the market mobile phones with screens smaller than 4.5 inches which has the top specification. Fortunately there is hope. Recently Sony introduced several variants of the upcoming Xperia Z6. The standard models are about to have a screen size of 5.2 inches (Z6) and 4.6-inch (Z6 Compact). Of course there will still be larger variants – Z6 Plus with 5.8 and Z6 Ultra with 6.4-inch screens. But guess which model attracted the most attention? Yes – you got it – 4-inch variant Z6 Mini! Of course it will not be smaller version of the Z6 (like Z6 Compact) because the announcement shows that it will have a slightly inferior processor but as I mentioned – a smaller screen does not need quite as strong components. Most importantly – such a model would has literally only one competitor. Any idea which one?

iphone-6c-metal

New iPhone 6C?

It’s … Apple. From leaks we know that the company from Cupertino unexpectedly wants to introduce a new 6C model in February and its screen would has exactly 4 inches. I do not know about you but if its specification, design and colors would be attractive with great pain in my heart I’ll start to think about replacing the good old 4S.

Source: komorkomania.pl

In modern times the size of mobile phones clearly prevailed over common sense when by the definition they were meant to be mobile and convenient to use devices. As for me my old 4S is the example of quality, design, size and ease of use perfection. Nevertheless after so much time its components and speed of working are weaker and while I thought about buying the latest iPhone 6S I would give Apple much more if they gave me its components packed in old clothes of 4S. Well growing screen sizes in smartphones seems to be inevitable but survey made in the article on komorkomania.pl gives me hope (on the side).

OnePlus left in the cold hundreds of world media

Reading Time: 3 minutesEven some five years ago, the phrase “Chinese phone” was associated only with something counterfeit or not good enough quality. But recently, enterprising Asians claim to be good, and even the leading smartphones. In particular, when the OnePlus project started, his main idea was – to produce the ideal machine for the price and quality, while having Chinese ancestry.

Advantages of the new brands that they have not yet developed a persistent advertising position from which they can not move a single step, and thus much easier to adapt to the market, fashion and new trends among consumers. It is easier to do something fresh and unexpected.

oppo-1

So, OnePlus launched a new and strange advertising campaign. On Facebook, company posts a post with the inscription – “We are working on the perfect gift for your friends, non-geek” and attached a photo. In the picture a black background hand holding something black, shaped like a mobile phone and an inscription – «Think different», like anything but ad dubbed scandalous. It’s all in the slogan, which formerly belonged to from Apple.

Media immediately erupted with angry articles and accusations of plagiarism. But, I think, in the PR-department of OnePlus sit not fools. It was possible to invest a lot of money in new individual slogan order very expensive company promotion, sit bite your elbows, because not all advertising has gone well. And you could do something like this, pour into Facebook, and all the world’s media do you advertise with pleasure, just sit and watch.
oneplus-x-iphone-6s-case-03-e1449118343126

Incidentally, the scandalous PR on Facebook Chinese did not stop there. Then there was information that they have stolen up closer to Apple, than someone who once could afford. They decided to dress up iPhone, what proudly proclaims on its homepage.

Case for iPhone 6 and 6S for $ 19.99, which is carefully preserve gadget intact. It is made of the same plastic Black Sandstone, as the smartphone OnePlus 2 and crowned with the logo “1+”. Along with the cover comes complete invitation to purchase OnePlus X Ceramic or, if lucky, a gift certificate for OnePlus X. In honor accessory even made a moving promotional video.

And here attention!

A huge number of websites, newspapers, magazines, public, ordinary users OnePlus threw stones for such advertising. Like, they stole a slogan, and even contrived cover to cover the apple logo and pose as normal the next iPhone OnePlus, so if a company advertises a future smart phone, it has already lost.

I’ve been reading these articles, and thought – and what a smartphone OnePlus going to let that under him to bring this company, because the last OnePlus released in November? Information about the prepared new smartphone I have not found, but noticed identity photos with advertising «Think different» and demonstration photo cover for the iPhone.

“Scandalous advertising next smartphone” from OnePlus not treated this next smartphone, because it is not in sight. Advertising was created just under Case for the iPhone, which, together with, gives the buyer the opportunity to acquire more and OnePlus X, if necessary, as smartphones are sold by invitation only. Accordingly, so the slogan was chosen Apple. Of course, OnePlus thus draws attention to itself and its products, but not as many people think.

The original – yes, strange – yes, mystery, yes – but not scandalous. OnePlus simply duped hundreds of news sites.

Apple pickpocket

Reading Time: 3 minutes

apple more dollarsEvery year Apple “generously” give us a new version of its phone. Lately, even doubling impressions, since there are two iPhones and even more colours. Some say that changes are good from the point of view of the user. But I have the impression that Apple behaves like a wolf in sheep’s skin. In the old days iPhone was setting the standards – not always had the best components but innovative features combined with (no doubts) the best design in the market and unmatched clarity iOS formed product practically unbeatable. Until now. In my opinion Apple shot itself into its foot. After the death of visionary Steve Jobs from the main innovator in the mobile market dropped to a miserable copyist of Asian copmetitors solutions which has not worked well. The famous “bend gate“, smaller batteries and skyrocketing prices in Poland discourages more customers. Of course queue for new iDevices is not declining but it remain some disgust. But the thing I was most upset was that suddenly “normal” iPhone (without Plus) has become secondary product. It is no longer the best product on the market in favor of greater Plus model. Why? Of course it’s about money. If you want to buy the iPhone which „lasts” whole day on a single battery charge you have to purchase Plus with a larger battery (obviously it’s more expensive). The same is about the camera – only in iP6Plus there is optical photo stabilization (more expensive). Not to mention the added functionality of the system in Plus (some features similar to the iPad’s software). Of course company explains lack of those by size of the casing or screen in iP6 but really „basic version” of this phone could easily handle all these functionalities. In addition there’s new swindle called “ChipGate” – the latest S versions processors comes from two companies – Samsung and TSMC. On paper the specification of this first looks little bit better (first of all why there are any differences?) but in practice during tests it turned out that it consumes much more energy for the same activities and was getting hotter. Moreover the calculations showed that there are more better processors (in percent of all) installed in… Plus versions (which are of course more expensive!). The cherry on top is that in practice customers in store can’t choose which processor will have because there’s no possibility to turn it on before buying (only in refurbished versions). Last but not least is that Apple continues to treat Poland as a third world country. In theory in Poland Apple’s market share ranks at around 2,14% but it still does not explain why Siri – which is one of the basic functionalities since the iPhone 4S and one of the main tools in using iWatch – is still not Polonized. Not only that iDevices premieres in Poland are delayed, we need to pay more for them comparing to other countries and in addition we can’t use all the features of the iOS. This way Apple simply pulls out lots of money from client’s pockets by not ensuring access to all its solutions and forcing customers wanting to have the best possible equipment to purchase more expensive variants. The icing on the cake is basic capacity of 16GB. To what extent is this enough – a few hundred pictures, songs and few apps? Of course you can buy a bigger capacity versions that are… more expensive. The conclusion is one – the company that once was famous for its innovation and unmatched facilities for not small amount of money has become a company that has increased the capacity of the screens in their devices (unthinkable at the Jobs times) and the efficiency of extracting even more money from their customers pockets.
