Great news for Cancer research!

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Unfortunately Cancer is serious issue of our society. I wanted to share this application with you, as something more personal. I have two friends that were diagnosed with cancer last year. Fortunately they didn’t passed out but it doesn’t change how important is the support for the research.

This new application called DreamLab, developed by Vodafone in collaboration with Garvan Insititute of Medical Research, is the perfect example of a useful application and a technologic progress.

As you probably know Cancer Research need super computers, it’s a long a slow process. What if we can all contribute to speed up the research? Directly from our home? In a very easy way? I think it is a great Idea, let me explain you.

Unfortunately only available on Android, this new application use the computing power of your phone to assist cancer research while you’re not using it. Networking is the clue for this application, to fight against breast, ovarian, prostate and pancreatic cancer.

The question is, how fast we can speed up the research? According to Garvan Insitute if they reach 100,000 users, the research data will speed up by approximately 3000 times.

All contributions are needed so I invite you to download this application and join the cause!

Hyper-fast charger UsBidi collected on Kickstarter 14 times more than required

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A few days charging cable is funded almost 8000 Becker, who invested in UsBidi half a million Australian dollars (about $ 360,000). But the campaign will last 27 days, and most likely, “smart” charger collect half a million in US currency. The goal of the developers was to gather Sydney 35 000 Australian dollars, and at the moment they already have 14 times the amount.

UsBidi creators claim that the speed of charging by USB while using the product is doubled. The device charges more quickly due to the fact that unlike other chargers. UsBidi can not synchronize the data simultaneously with the battery charge. To do this, UsBidi a special button that allows you to turn off synchronization and double the speed of the charge.

Charging is automatically turned off when fully charged, thus protecting it from overheating, and short-term cycles, reduces the service life. Indicator lights UsBidi will know about the status of charging and convenient magnetic mount will lock the cable.

The cable works with smartphones and tablets. Also, the buyer can choose the version with the Lightning connector for Apple devices or for Micro USB devices working on Android. The length of the charging cable can be 30, 90 or 180 cm.

Approximate price for UsBidi would be $18 (+ shipment). Thus the buyer can select the connector, color and length.

Would it be a trend in 2016 ?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

In the world of web design life does not stand still. New ideas, techniques, tools and approaches appear almost every day. In web design, as well as in any other sphere of activity – for those interested in the subject and intends to understand it, you need to keep an eye on and watch what happens.

Personally, I think that “trending” of web design is very interesting as for well known designers as for new entrepreneurs. The goal of this article is to offer not only the designer of sites, but also the most modern patterns, each one of you could easily make a beautiful and professional site a trendy solution.

2015 gradually coming to an end, so let’s talk about what will be important in the near future.

Good news

Text + Graphics = Love

Prepare to be that designers will use a text made up of graphic elements, images, textures and geometric shapes. Typography has always been considered an important part of web design, and with the growth of the technical capabilities of its role will only increase.

Web design: customer-oriented

To make a good site, you need to understand what the audience wants. The idea is not new, but are beginning to discuss it very deeply and seriously only now. The point is that the designer should provide the client uses the site, and do everything that he was the most clear and comfortable. Content and images must involve everyone, but first of all – representatives of a specific target audience.

All the attention to the content

A good way to emphasize the importance of communication – to put it right in the middle of the page and add a striking image or homogeneous background. This method is ideal for those occasions when you want to focus on the short statement.

Blocks content

If the statement is not one thing, it makes sense to divide the page into several large blocks – is still relevant. The blocks must not be such as to Pintereste and wide – on the entire screen. Researches would like to draw your attention to the fact that each unit can be decorated in its own style. This gives designers greater freedom – you can not worry about the visual hierarchy.

Bad news

Very long sites

The popularity of mobile interfaces and Facebook led to the fact that all started to make a long scrolling page. The idea itself is not bad, especially if you know when to stop. Now we regret that some sites are too long. The most common errors of their creators is infinite scrolling, love heavy animation effects and inability to structure content.

Securely hidden menu

You could not help but notice that the familiar menu navigation was reduced to a single icon, which opens when you click. On the screens of mobile devices, where little space is important and every pixel, it is really convenient, but on the ordinary – not always. Often, people do not see this icon, and does not understand how he go from one section to another. The golden rule of design says – avoid unnecessary complications. That is, do not hide the menu and do not force the user to search for it.

Too many layers

The text over the picture, and the picture – over the motley heterogeneous background. Do you think anybody wants to understand this chaos? Let’s agree to comply with the order. It’s easy to get started, you can get rid of superfluous elements arranged in two or three layers.

Unnecessary entry

Modern sites have a serious drawback – they are very “heavy”. Sometimes, instead of reducing the amount of content and thereby increase the speed of loading, their owners camouflage problem by adding an introductory welcome page. While the user is viewing the intro, site-heavyweight quietly loaded. What is the result? As a result, you do not make friends with the visitor, but the opposite – pushes him away, creating an additional obstacle. Output – safely remove all unnecessary.

Some “horror”
Enumerating applications

It’s great that the site you can add any third-party application, but there are limits. Please do not get carried away. Understand that these applications work on different people. Each of them – his own style, which is often not identical with the style of your site. Excessive application will not lead to anything good, honestly. The advice – pick one or two of the most necessary, and to confine them.

The main reason of inequality on Earth

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Hello everyone. Today I want to hear YOUR thoughts about the issue I want to lift up here. Recently I’ve heard an opinion that seduced my brain to think quite hard. It is was said, that the main reason why inequality among people (generations, continents etc) constantly growths is a technological progress. It is not the only reason, but the fact is technological development with each new breakthrough deepens the void between rich and poor.

I never thought about it before, but from the first sight it makes perfect sense, don’t You think? Great industrial revolution of 17th-18th century made people, who were actually involved in it, reacher. In comparison with people who were not affected by the revulsion, participants could effort additional meals, accommodation ever since. Therefore, the abyss of inequality extended significantly. With each technological breakthrough people with immediate and permanent access to each gain the most from it, whereas inhabitants of remote regions still keep up. Paraphrasing Pareto rules, if some fraction of population gains value while the rest do not lose value, then the whole society is better off. However the growing inequality thanks to technology concerns me and causes doubts about the true “better off” for society.

I believe the topic is so complex and we can have good discussion on it 🙂

So, dear readers, I have my opinion, yet I eager to know Your opinion on consequent matters:

  1. Does the technological breakthroughs cause inequality among us?
  2. If yes, is there any chance to mitigate the weak access to new technology for all of us?

Gamescore – a new indicator of our creditworthiness?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Not in Poland; but in China – yes. China figured out a new system of determining people’s creditworthiness, which is a condition to get any kind of loan. They took gamefication to a whole new level. What is more, this is a new idea how to get more data about the people and how to control their private lives.

The system was shown this year and in 5 years it will be compulsory in all China. People will be getting credit points in scale 350-950. There will also be a tracking application, which will be coupled with the ID of every citizen. How you can gain or loose points? With almost every click you make. You gain points if you have online friends, who are politically correct (of course not on facebook etc, but on Chinese substitutes of Western social media), if you have a hobby which is considered to be a “positive hobby” (there are two categories of hobbies – positive and negative ones), if you buy appropriate products – e.g. healthy food, etc.

Capture

In order to make all this work, government prepared the “carrot” – bonuses for taking good care of the gamescore. The more points you get the bigger loan you can take, e.g. for 650 points you can borrow a car without paying the deposit, for 700 points you can get the allowance for a trip to Singapore and for 750 points guarantees obtaining a Schengen visa. Moreover, companies are going to adjust their services to this system and e.g. if you have the appropiate amount of points, you will have a higher passanger status at airlines and get additional conveniences for free.

All of that sounds terryfing, however, we give a lot of pieces of information about ourselves as well. There is just no pointing system, but the data is there. Do you think it will be ever possible to do something similar in Europe? For a smaller scale?

New Paid Youtube Option

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Youtube just introduced Youtube Red – paid monthly subscription of 9,99$ (currently available only in USA). What we will gain and how it will work if we decide to pay?

What users will gain:

– no advertisements on website and on all Youtube applications

– possibility of downloading movies and watching them offline on mobile device

– video playback in the background with turned off screen (in the mobile YouTube app)

– access to the full resources of YouTube Music, consisting mainly of music videos

– access to a paid Google Play Music plan

– access to new videos “YouTube Originals” created by the most famous YouTubers in cooperation with producers of television movies and series

How it will work:

– Youtube Red is just an additional option on Youtube.com and Youtube apps, not a different website (it is similar to Spotify that most of you probably know)

– Yourube Red users pay once to remove ads from all devices (smartphone, tablet, tv) assigned to your account

– Youtubers that earns on Youtube must approve new agreement with Google, which states that for Youtube Red user ads will be switched off so they won’t earn from ads, but will get some money from subscription fee

– Paid channels is separate issue. Each paid channel operates independently, so for access to each have to pay separately.

I am wondering if people are willing to pay now, while are used to Youtube to be free. What do you think? Are you going to use Youtube Red option?

Technology taking control

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Tesla is a company that has gone a step forward in comparison to their competition. With the latest update Tesla introduced an early preview of autonomous car. Now, it is possible to try the Beta version of autopilot software. The system is not fully developed yet, it is acting as a self-steering extension of a radar cruise control system. The system has been tested on motorways and it seems to work quite good but the driver has to watch the road all the time. There is still a lot of work to be done for all types of roads to be safely auto-piloted. tesla-model

The question is where are we going? Isn’t the technology taking over the control in our lives? We can notice more and more electronic devices in our lives. Tesla’s idea is indisputable innovative and creative. However, it is also very dangerous for the society. Technology is helpful in everyday life, but it limits our skills and abilities. It is widely known that unused skills just disappear. Do we really want to let the technology go so deep in our lives?

Deliveries by drones, a curse or a blessing?

Reading Time: 3 minutes
As the world keeps transitioning away from traditional shopping and moves towards online purchasing, businesses have also started adapting to these transitions. Many companies in the USA are removing steps that might be of any inconvenience to the customer. Just like Amazon delivers the new “Bread Maker 3234, with the optimal Twitter option” to your door, well even groceries stores like Publix delivers groceries to your door. However some companies like Publix have faced difficulties because of the demand and because of the logistics regarding it. Companies like Amazon, Google and Walmart have many branches in different states in United States, therefore its not difficult to have to have multiple supply hubs. The only difficulty is transporting those supplies to the customers that want their product as quickly as possible. This is where drones come into play.
Major companies like Google, Amazon and even Walmart are looking into how drones can give them an advantage over the competition, and it seems like this will be the future. Majority of these companies are doing research and testing different way that they can use drones. Amazon has a drone that can deliver up to 40 pounds (18kg) and they are trying to deliver products in 30 minutes or less. Think about that for a second. You can order an entire outfit to go out that you cannot find at the mall, but was available online on Amazon and have it delivered to you, before the pizza you ordered from Domino’s pizza online arrives. Now that is insane! As well Amazon is proposing to have a certain airspace above our heads (between 60-120 meters) to be clean and only available for “high-speed aerial drones”. Now for societies that require everything to be done at almost break neck speeds this will be useful for many of the populations, especially the lazier and less social ones. But most importantly, the increased amount of drones whipping at high speeds through the air may lead to the closure of retail stores or even malls. Malls in the USA has been closing at an incredible rate, but sure you might be looking at me and saying: “ARE YOU SENILE? YOU SOUNDS LIKE MY GRANDMOTHER! I BET YOU ARE ALSO THE TYPE THAT LIKES READING BOOKS! GO AWAY YOU OLD BAT, BEFORE YOU GIVE ME SHINGLES!” and you maybe right, I might have shingles, but you are not seeing at the entire picture of the situation.
When we were younger we would go to the mall to go shopping, hang out, buy stuff, watch a movie, simply interact with each other in person, and not via social media. But also one thing you might have ignored throughout all that time spent at the mall. The older security cop who needs a job to get a gift for his grandson for Christmas. The 17 year old shop keeper whose first job ever is at stake. The janitor sweeping the floor trying to make ends meet, with a job that most of us would never do, but he is desperate and needs it. The immigrant family who owns and runs the restaurant and is trying to make the best out of this opportunity. Now with the direction that the future is moving towards, all these jobs will be gone. Lost. Forever. As well with the increasing population, jobs will not be easier to find specially for some of the uneducated people, heck is even difficult for the educated ones.
Ordering online and having your “Desperately needed Jimmy Choo shoes, for that party tonight” delivered in 30 minutes via drone, is it truly worth all the potential damage it can cost all of us as society in the long run?
Well what do I know, I might be wrong about this. But what can go wrong? *a drone drops from the sky and hits me on the head*.
