It goes without saying that car brands are now strongly committed to electric driving. At the time of writing, this is labeled as the number one way of driving in the future. That said, the competition with hydrogen-powered vehicles is just around the corner. However, at the time of writing, the latter technology is still too much in its infancy to enable mass production. Of course, this does not apply to electric vehicles. The American car brand Tesla has set the tone in this area and now it is up to the other (European) car brands to continue this trend. One of the car brands that is now investing heavily in electric is Fiat. This includes her Fiat Panda.
Alternative to expensive electric vehicles
Despite the fact that the average purchase price of electric cars has decreased somewhat in recent years, it must be said that the costs are still quite high. In the meantime, many car manufacturers have tried to lower the prices of electric cars, but have actually not or only barely succeeded in doing so. This is actually Fiat’s absolute number one goal. It wants to ensure that its electric Fiat Panda, which should appear on the market in 2023, becomes the world’s first truly affordable electric car. The parent company Stellantis has already announced that it will do everything in its power to achieve this. The electric model of the Fiat Panda will be presented in the spring of 2022. In any case, the aim is to ensure that the introductory price will be lower compared to the current Fiat 500.
Based on concept model from 2019?
At the time of writing, it seems that the majority of the Panda-e or the so-called-Panda will be based on the concept model that was already presented to the world in the year 2019. In concrete terms, this concerned the so-called Fiat Centoventi. Stellantis has expressed the strong ambition to market its electric Panda as economically as possible. The main question, however, is how exactly to achieve this. This should be achieved, among other things, by offering the electric Panda only in one version. The customer would therefore only be able to choose between 4 different bumpers, rims and colors. Whether people will eventually continue to hold on to this limited freedom of choice is of course still very much the question, but it could certainly be possible. In any case, considerable savings could be achieved in this way.
Very limited infotainment system
In practice, the so-called infotainment system is known to have a significant impact on the purchase price of a vehicle. This appears to apply in particular to electric cars. It is therefore not surprising that Stellantis also pays special attention to this system. For example, there is a suspicion that it will not be present or will be present only to a very limited extent. Of course there would be a screen in the vehicle, but its functions will be severely limited in practice. That’s all nice and nice, of course, but doesn’t that take away the heart of an electric vehicle? Yes and no.
The choice to implement a very limited infotainment system gives Fiat the opportunity to sharpen the introductory price of its electric Fiat Panda. A dock would be provided to compensate for the resulting lack of functionality. This customizable dock would be fitted next to the steering wheel and would work in conjunction with the smartphone or tablet the driver of the car has. In this way, a wide range of possibilities can be realized without automatically pushing up the price.
Do you have an à la carte system with batteries?
At the time of writing, it seems that users of the electric Fiat Panda will have to settle for a fairly limited freedom of choice. That said, there would be a special à la carte system for batteries. As standard, the e-Panda would be equipped with a limited battery with a driving range of barely 100 kilometers. This, of course, again with the main reason to reduce the purchase price of the vehicle.
If you want a longer driving range, you can choose to rent or buy another battery. In this way, the personal requirements or expectations that owners of an electric Fiat Panda have at their disposal can be met to some extent. At least this is certainly the case with regard to the driving range.
